Why Impatience Is a Virtue

“Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.”

— Seneca

As luck would have it…this message might very well prove to be the wake-up call you need to get off the pot and into the game.

We’ll begin our journey together with a why related question.

Why is it so important for you to be impatient…to create a massive sense of urgency in your actions…to be in a hurry to become your own hero and make your dreams come true?

The answer is as simple as it is profound.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT

You have no choice but to accept the reality that you’re playing a high stakes game of ONE AND DONE.

You have exactly one life in which to do everything you’ll ever do. There are no do-overs, you will not receive a second chance…either use this life well or lose it.

That’s why it’s in your best interest to wake up and start adopting the virtues of initiative, self-reliance, commitment and speed…and how critically important it is to reject the vices of procrastination, dependence on others, indecision and complacency.

Like it or lump it…you need to get serious about upgrading your execution skills, and learning what it takes to quickly convert your aspirations into achievements…problems into solutions…and opportunities into outstanding accomplishments…BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT.

That’s where the trouble begins, because you think you have time…when in fact, you do not!

For all the things you might want to experience in life (insert your bucket list here)…time is running out.

You never know when the last grain of sand will fall through the middle of your own life’s hourglass.

STOP BEING PATIENT…time really is running out for you to become the person you’ve always wanted to be…to make the difference you seek to make…to produce the work you know you’re capable of.

Where’s the urgency…where’s the bias towards action…what sign or permission slip are you hoping to one day receive?

These questions require rigorous and immediate interrogation as you’ll be dead a lot longer than you’ll ever be alive?

“Those who are impatient, don’t wait around for their dreams to come true. They don’t wait for things to happen, they take initiative and make them happen.”
— Gary Ryan Blair

Parents, your children are growing up quickly…you need to be in a hurry to teach and expose them to what is positive and virtuous, to shape their character and to ensure self-reliance.

Entrepreneurs, you need to be in a hurry to add greater value to a greater number of people, to dazzle and amaze…in a hurry to create work that people would miss if it were gone.

Teachers, you need to be in a hurry to captivate attention, to instill a love of learning… in a rush to turn your students into informed and educated leaders of tomorrow.

Students, time is going by faster than you realize…you need to be in a hurry to create good study habits, to develop a love for learning…in a hurry to solve challenging problems and to acquire good decision making and leadership skills.

Leaders, you need to be in a hurry to share a bold, empowering vision…to inspire hope and to instill confidence…in a hurry to set an example worth following.

Make no mistake about it…TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

That’s why YOU need to be in a hurry to face your fears, develop courage, share your bravest work, commit to excellence, get in shape, get out of debt, shed high-maintenance relationships, eliminate excuses, become financially free…and dare mighty things.

THE HUNGRIEST PERSON WINS

At this point in the message…it’s time for a quick intervention and another rendezvous with reality.

Right about now, I’d say it’s a safe bet that you’re either all in on this idea, or you’re looking for my number and ready to unload on why you think I’m off my rocker.

For those of you who think I’ve been off sniffing glue…I offer the following truth:

You’re capable of doing so much…of living a much larger life and of making a significant and lasting impact on the world…However like most goals, dreams and ideas which never see the light of day…your destiny will not be fulfilled without the upgrading of your execution skills and the development of a massive sense of urgency.

In the end, the hungriest person always wins…and I assure you, the hungriest person is quite impatient and well aware that time is running out, That’s what makes them hungry. They live their life knowing that every minute, every moment and every memory counts.

I long ago came to the understanding that any goal, task, intention or idea takes as much time as you allow for it to take…and if you work smart by executing with speed and precision…it won’t take much time for you to enjoy victory. It really is that simple!

Ultimately, it’s a choice between two options…YOU can spend the remainder of your life accomplishing small stuff slowly…or you can learn to upgrade your execution skills and achieve big goals quickly.

THINK ABOUT IT….

If the goal is to become debt free…why perpetuate the pain and do it slowly?

If the goal is to get in great shape…why on earth should it take 20 years to lose 20 pounds?

If the goal is to get better grades…why should it take any longer than the next exam to turn things around?

If the goal is to become the sales leader in your company…why should it take until next year when you can wear the crown next month?

And, if the goal is to get rich…why not learn how to get rich fast, and while you’re young for that matter?

Once again…any goal, task, intention or idea takes as much time as you allow for it to take.

Doesn’t it make so much sense to stop being patient…to start rewriting the rules of engagement…and to live the most amazing life possible?
